The Power to Give

CHARITABLE GIVING AT POWERTECH

At PowerTech, we believe success and philanthropy go hand-in-hand. Everyone who works here – from our leadership team to our technicians and staff – is grateful to the support our communities in Iowa, Nebraska, Northern Kansas, and South Dakota have given us over the years. It has helped our company grow, create more jobs, and make us who we are today.

Now, it’s time for us to give back.

In 2020, PowerTech launched “The Power to Give,” the charitable giving division of our organization. Our mission? To be very intentional with lasting contributions aimed indirectly at helping children across our communities.

What that means is this: We’re working with local schools to help kids have a better life through more opportunities for mental health services. Research has shown that good mental health is crucial to children’s success in school and in life, starting in grade school. Students who receive social, emotional, and mental support at school get better grades and more likely to be happy, productive, and healthy adults.

But let’s face it: Our schools have limited resources. There are not many opportunities to hire another school counselor, or even have a therapist on staff at all. Our work aims to help educators work with kids of all ages on how to cope with the ups and downs of life – and deal with their feelings and emotions in a positive, yet vulnerable and safe way.

The Power to Give is still in its infancy, but we’ve already committed to giving 5% of our profits this year, totaling a minimum of $100,000.  We’ve also put together an advisory board made up of local teachers, school-based interventionists, and administrators to ensure that our efforts are properly guided to the areas and the students who need help the most. We’re also planning to pay our employees to volunteer at child-related events, and they contribute to the cause themselves through payroll dedication if they wish.

It’s only the beginning.

We’re going to approach our charitable giving efforts the same way we do our business so that it works, helps others, and continues to grow. Our ultimate goal is to make The Power to Give a self-sustaining entity that will help local children well into the future.

Many of us have children of our own, and all of us were kids once. Let’s do our part to help make today’s generation happier, healthier, and stronger.
